For the husband and wife veterinary team of Robin Waters-Poderski and Karol Poderski, the Martin Downs Animal Hospital is a dream come true! Their vision was to build a facility that would not only be on the leading edge of design and functionality, but they also dreamed of creating an animal hospital that was inviting and friendly, and provided a genuinely unique experience for pets and their owners.

From the moment you enter Martin Downs Animal Hospital (MDAH) you’ll be aware of the attention to detail. The facility is bright and open with a pleasant, easygoing ambiance. Many of the dividing walls are glass, making the environment visually interactive for the animals, staff, and clients.

Your children will love it here, too! There’s a fun children’s nook and a 150-gallon salt-water aquarium in the waiting area, a real visual treat for the kids!

Martin Downs Animal Hospital, an 8,000 square foot, is divided into three primary sections:

Deluxe “Hotel Style” Boarding
First class comfort all the way is what your pet will enjoy at MDAH. We’ve dedicated approximately 2000 square feet of space to create a very special, upscale vacation retreat for your pet. There’s an enormous amount of added natural light and glass doors instead of metal bars, making MDAH a very welcome and warm atmosphere.

We’ll care for and pamper your pet’s every need throughout their stay. Our unique boarding facility includes luxury suites and standard suites for large and small dogs. Your cat will enjoy our “glassed condos” where they can peer out at the activity letting their inquisitive nature run wild! In addition, this wing features a fully stocked food preparation area and a modern and professional grooming center where your dog or cat will get the “full” treatment!

When you board your pet at our hotel you can be assured of their comfort and safety. As for you … you’ll be guilt free.

An Interactive Ambulatory Facility – We went to great lengths to make the ambulatory section of the hospital a truly interactive environment. When you bring your pets to MDAH we want you to feel relaxed and feel welcome to look around and experience our unique facility.

Our pet friendly waiting and reception area has a cozy children’s nook and a spectacular saltwater aquarium, so if you have more than just your pets in tow the little ones will have plenty to keep them entertained. In fact, the waiting area offers views of cats enjoying their private condos and our professional grooming staff busy making pets beautiful.
Also in this area is our retail kiosk with a variety of quality products and supplies for your pet.

The doctors will greet you and your pet in one of our four comfortable examination rooms. Adjacent to the exam rooms is a well supplied pharmacy and a fully equipped laboratory enabling the doctors to quickly attend your pet’s immediate needs.

A State-of-The-Art Medical Section – This wing offers a fully sterilized hospital environment featuring the very latest equipment throughout. Within this section there is a large treatment area, a surgical room with an innovative pass through area, a radiology room, an ICU with recovery suites, an isolation room, and a dental section.

(Throughout, the hospital is integrated with a network of computers utilizing veterinary professional software. The entire facility is also through security contacts and cameras.)

A Note About Our Design
Doctors Karol and Robin Poderski wanted the very best architectural firm to design Martin Downs Animal Hospital. Their search took them to Albuquerque, New Mexico and the firm of Wayne Usiak, BDA Architecture, one of the world’s leading specialists in the design and construction of animal care facilities.

For more than twenty years BDA Architecture has designed hundreds of animal care facilities around the world – every type of facility, from 600 square foot storefront renovations to 35,000 square foot referral practices. BDA Architecture has received 17 national design awards for veterinary hospitals including two Veterinary Economics Hospitals of the Year.

BDA Architecture designed the MDAH facility to integrate and balance function, economy and innovation. They took into account the local setting so the hospital would fit into the community.The comfort, security and convenience for animals, clients and staff were all taken in to consideration.

A secure environment…inside and outside
MDAH is situated on about one acre, so there is plenty of space for your pet to stretch their legs. However, you won’t have to worry about your pet’s safety. A security wall surrounds the landscaped exercise area on the sides and in the back of the hospital, just one more way MDAH watches out for your beloved pet. The building’s structure is solid, made out of CBS blocks with a metal roof and impact resistant windows making it strong enough to be a hurricane shelter.

Noted designer created interior space to amplify the structural design and the love of animals in one ‘visual-swoop’ with strength and warmth!
Author, speaker, TV personality and internationally recognized decorating expert, Carole Talbott, lead the interior design team for MDAH. Her Visual Coordinations® technique brings a balanced theme to the hospital’s interior spaces.

Karen Hetzer, artist extraordinaire, used her talent for (trump Loi?) bringing to life The Waldoff Astoria luxury kennels. In addition, ‘busy’ animals are strategically placed throughout the building creating unusual visual effects that are sure to be topics of conversation for years to come.

An Accredited AAHA Facility…
Martin Downs Animal Hospital is proud to comply with requirements for accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Less than 10% of all veterinary hospitals in North America have met the rigorous standards required for certification by the AAHA.
Meet the Doctors
Doctors Robin and Karol Poderski and their two children Bucky and Karolina love animals. Presently, they have two dogs, two cats, a hamster, a lizard and a fish. A growing family, indeed!

Karol Poderski, D.V.M.
Karol was born, raised and educated in Poland. He graduated from the Wroclaw-Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 and came to the United States in 1981. He has practiced veterinary medicine in Florida since 1988. His special interest is surgery. He is a member of AVMA, AAHA, MCVMA, PVMA.

Robin Waters-Poderski, D.V.M.
Robin is originally from North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Agriculture from the University of Georgia and a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the North Carolina College of Veterinary Medicine. She has been a practicing veterinarian in Palm City since 1990. Her special interests are internal medicine and dermatology. She is a member of AVMA, FVMA, AAHA, MCVMA.
